Author Bio

My name is Matthew McConnell, I am 22 years old and a student of Creative Digital Media in TUDublin Blanchardstown. I've been playing all sorts of games my entire life so it just made sense that I would try and focus my career goals around playing games and having fun. My favourite Video Games are usually single player RPGs but I feel that games are best played with other people so I love going to the arcade with friends.

Chapter Topic

My chapter topic is the history of gaming in the predigital era, which is something I had a lot of fun researching and writing about, I'm a big nerd so talking about Dungeons and Dragons and the history of the game chasing was just really fun topics for me to write about.


My Thoughts

I'm pretty happy with how my chapter turned out, I feel like its pretty well researched and written competently enough. The thought of having something I wrote published in a bonafide book is a really exciting concept to me. I look forward to informing my friends that my opinions on videogames matter more than theirs as a published academic of the gaming culture.

So I uninstalled it and installed a newer version onto my laptop and boom, I'm back in business. First things first I spruced up the player character model by creating textures in unity and aplying them to a free Solid Snake asset I got off that website a few weeks back, heres the final result.   I know it's no Kratos in God of War 4 in terms of graphical quality but I was trying to go for a classic ps1 pixely aesthetic which I think translates pretty well into the final product. Introduction to me

 Hey, Hows it going?  I'm Matthew, my friends call me Mac because I remind them of Mac from Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia and to be honest it kinda feels weird to be called anything else nowadays. I'm 22, doing Creative Digital Media in TU Dublin in Blanchardstown (duh) and I work in Cineworld in town. I play a few instruments and I'm in a band with a few of my mates from Secondary School, we did some gigs and we were doing pretty good until Covid started and we couldn't play live anymore but hey, its a hobby. At the start of Covid I started painting little space dudes for the craic but now I'm in severe debt from buying so much from the Warhammer shop that I've asked my girlfriend to punch me everytime I try go anywhere near it. My Favourite Movies are Jurassic Park, The Big Lebowski, The Lord of the Rings (all 3) and Army of Darkness. I like alot of music but I guess my favourite type of music would be rock music, I like bands like Ween, Rush and King Gizza

First Playable

To quote Jeff Goldblum in my absolute favourite film of all time, "You did it, You crazy Son of a B**** You did it".  Thats right, I have made a halfway decent stealth game. I've built up the game from my prototype, introducing a GameWin state and a GameLose state to the game, meaning the player now has a goal and things stopping him from reaching that goal.  This is the winning Message. This is the Game Over Screen. I replaced the cube with a Solid Snake character asset to show who the player is, this is only a placeholder for the moment. I found the asset on  this website if your interested, they provide some really cool free assets for games. There are now multiple Guards following diverse paths making sneaking past them a bit tricky. Buildings can be used to take cover behind.
