Project: Beta

First things first I just wanna say, screw you Unity Hub, I had been trying to actually get to my game for the past week but as you guys may have seen in my last post, Unity Hub didn't want to admit that I had a licence to use it. So I uninstalled it and installed a newer version onto my laptop and boom, I'm back in business.

First things first I spruced up the player character model by creating textures in unity and aplying them to a free Solid Snake asset I got off that website a few weeks back, heres the final result.

I know it's no Kratos in God of War 4 in terms of graphical quality but I was trying to go for a classic ps1 pixely aesthetic which I think translates pretty well into the final product. I also made a few textures for buildings and signs in illustrator and imported them into the game to make it a bit less Alpha and a lot more Beta.
I also implemented a few voice lines that play at the start and end of the game, these voice lines are very rough as they are all done by me in a single take, my aim is just to see how the work and sound while playing the game.

I also installed  cinemachine to make the game camera follow the player, making it feel like a third person game.

The rest of this week was taken up by simply playtesting the game, I wanted to make sure that the player can actually reach the end while also enjoying a bit of a challenge when sneaking past the guards.

I am actually pretty proud of this game, it's no masterpiece but for a game made by a guy who had only heard of Unity through friends 10 years ago, I think the final product is really something I can be proud of.

  1. Wow, your game looks really good , i can see how hard-working you were with your game , you went really far making some details in illustrator for your game , and I know Unity Hub can be really annoying, it happened to me as well , but it is really good that you managed to finish the game and you could overcome all your challenges in such a busy time. You should be very proud of yourself as it is probably the hardest task in this semester so far as not everything goes your way and quite often you have to start again and again.

  2. Hello, Matthew I like the design of your avatar, it does kind of look like a ps1 character. I think adding the following camera would be a good idea because it would add some intensity to the game cause you would be worried a guard is behind you. I also like that you made the layout of the game into the maze, makes it more fun. Look forward to seeing your game.

  3. Heya Matthew, Your game has come along really well, hahahah the graphics quality on some assets are questionable aren't they. Really love your ideas that you put into this game, I haven't come across anyone else yet doing this sort of thing where you add signs and voice lines.
Best of luck for the final week of game making!

I like how your graphics are kind of old school, reminds me of the ps1 games haha!
I love the idea of the game, it's very unique.
I like how you have dialogue in your game, it must've been hard to add in!
Best of luck with the last bits of your game, I can't wait to see how it turns out,

  5. Hey Mat! Your game is looking amazing! I think in my opinion you put a lot of hard work into it and it is coming along great! I just wonder how you got those voice lines into the game? Because that's something I have never seen someone do in Unity before. I love the feel and the look of the game as it does actually remind me of PS1 graphics back in the day and it feels nostalgic! Overall I feel this game will be amazing to play and you are going to do a great job in making and finishing the rest of this game! Good luck Mat and keep in touch with how the game is doing!

  6. What’s up Matthew!

Your game is looking great! I like that you’re going for a PS1 aesthetic with your game. It’s really cool that you made your own textures in Illustrator, don’t know why I didn’t think about that, then again, I would have broken my laptop somehow if I tried that 🤣

Implementing voice lines into your game is an incredible leap! I don’t think anybody else in out course has voice lines in their game. It’s fantastic that you can stand at the end of the semester and say that you are proud of your game. Being able to take pride in your work is one of the greatest feelings in life.

  7. Sup Matthew, All i can say is wow! I am absolutely blown away by the level of talent you have and i hope you realize it. You can really put your skills to good work and land a successful game on the markets. If you could do this in a few weeks , imagine what you could make working on a game for a year. Great work once again , i really hope you consider continuing on and doing something with your talent.
