Unity Tutorial 5

Image
I got a bit of Deja Vu this week as I was working on camera controls. The tutorial wanted me to install cinemachine but since thats what I had used last year on my game I figured I could see where things were going. Essentially all I had to do was add a 2D camera, and then drag the player sprite into the cameras inspector which then made the camera follow the player around, just like in my last game. After that I used the CinemaConfiner extension to keep the camera from going out of bounds and showng the player what was outside of the map. This was done by creating a border around the map and adding a collider to bo th the border and the camera.

Unity Tutorial 04

Screenshot of Sprite Sheet The lessons this week were pretty interesting and exciting to get done, from the start of these tutorial I was excited to do animation so when I saw the title sprite animation I got pretty hyped. The UI for creating 2D games in Unity is remarkably user friendly and helpful, I'm looking forward to seeing how creating character animation works when using my own assets and not these tutorial sprites. Setting Parameters would have been an impossible task for me to have figured out without this tutorial, using a blend tree was a fun thing to learn to do, I'm not sure how I'll do without the tutorial there to guide me so I have the page book marked just in case I need my training wheels back...

At this point I've given up on seeing the classic video tutorials that I loved so very much. This weeks tutorial was simple enough however it included a lot of coding which I found hard to keep up with as I oftentimes end up messing up my script a little bit, usually by forgetting that damn little ";". It was fun to learn about changing health and stuff, which is something I would have liked to have known last semester, but this will no doubt become a useful tool when it comes to my end of year project.  I'm actually pretty excited to se how this game actually turns out, it's nice to follow along with someone else's designs rather than come up with my own stuff. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Flearn.unity.com%2Fproject%2Fruby-s-2d-rpg&psig=AOvVaw1LPzMZoVjXy3p8GQTKa_0K&ust=1648150444019000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAwQjhxqFwoTCOCz7IH93PYCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD

Reading 08: Touch Ups

image taken from pixabay  I was pretty happy with the feedback I got about my chapter, the fact that it was too long was a good thing for me as I believe its easier to have something be too long and cut stuff out than have it be too short and have to add a bunch more words. Essentially what I've done is taken out all the fluff from my chapter and spruced up my bibliography, I really wasn't thinking when it came down to putting a link into my text lol. I also need to stop spelling Gary Gygaxs name wrong, I think its just autocorrect changing what I tye behind my back.

Reading 07: Reviews and Critiques

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/nostalgia-critic-0db846d2e60442e1a0433155e930cc03 I had a bit of trouble this week as I had come down with a pretty bad flu so I ended up missing class. From what I can see I didn't get put into a group to review anyone's work so I decided to review the writings of Emma and Nasim who I know from doing group project with.  Emma had written about a topic that was pretty close to mine, namely "The resurgence of simple games - board games, card games and table top RPGs". The chapter is really well researched and poses a pretty wholesome reason as to why people were returning to board games, essentially the digital age has made people lonely, and thus they long for human connection. The chapter was well written however I personally feel that the writing becomes bloated in the middle. Unfortunately it looks like Nasim hasn't written anything for his chapter yet, I'll update this when he does.

Project Part 1: Planning

Oh boy, this again. I hate trying to come up with ideas, as a self described artist most of my time is spent coming up with ideas, usually leading me down a path of writers block and self pity. However this week I feel like I have kind of a good idea. Maybe not a great one, but an idea that excites me when I think about putting work into it. Okay, so when I've been on kind of a 60's psychedelic music kick for the past couple of years that have lead me into some pretty weird Facebook groups with a lot of seventy old hippies sharing memes and cool artwork, mostly with bright vibrant artwork and I have to say, it's great stuff. The mere act of tie dieing a shirt has brought so much joy into my life that I think I am just a hippie at this point. So when I saw that the project this semester was called a "Spaced Out" Project my inner Jerry Garcia said far out man and I started sketching some Ideas for a possible 2D game I would like to make with some psychedelic imager

“A Predigital History of Games And Narrative” By Matthew McConnell B00138902 The common agreed upon starting point for video games came in 1958, when an American physicist named William Higinbotham created a game called “Tennis for Two” on an old analog computer, like its more well known successor “Pong” it was played by two people controlling digital paddles hitting a small digital ball to and fro across the screen until one person had scored more points than the other. This one invention led to the creation of various arcade cabinets, game consoles and inevitably brought about the hugely popular gaming craze that has swept the world in the last two or three decades. However, “Tennis for Two” isn’t the first example of people inventing an activity for the sole purpose of simple fun, in actuality, games have been played throughout the history of hundreds of different cultures throughout the world. For example, Tennis for Two was obviously based on the game Tennis, which can be traced
