Reading 07: Reviews and Critiques

I had a bit of trouble this week as I had come down with a pretty bad flu so I ended up missing class. From what I can see I didn't get put into a group to review anyone's work so I decided to review the writings of Emma and Nasim who I know from doing group project with. 

Emma had written about a topic that was pretty close to mine, namely "The resurgence of simple games - board games, card games and table top RPGs". The chapter is really well researched and poses a pretty wholesome reason as to why people were returning to board games, essentially the digital age has made people lonely, and thus they long for human connection. The chapter was well written however I personally feel that the writing becomes bloated in the middle.

Unfortunately it looks like Nasim hasn't written anything for his chapter yet, I'll update this when he does.

So I uninstalled it and installed a newer version onto my laptop and boom, I'm back in business. First things first I spruced up the player character model by creating textures in unity and aplying them to a free Solid Snake asset I got off that website a few weeks back, heres the final result.   I know it's no Kratos in God of War 4 in terms of graphical quality but I was trying to go for a classic ps1 pixely aesthetic which I think translates pretty well into the final product. Introduction to me

 Hey, Hows it going?  I'm Matthew, my friends call me Mac because I remind them of Mac from Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia and to be honest it kinda feels weird to be called anything else nowadays. I'm 22, doing Creative Digital Media in TU Dublin in Blanchardstown (duh) and I work in Cineworld in town. I play a few instruments and I'm in a band with a few of my mates from Secondary School, we did some gigs and we were doing pretty good until Covid started and we couldn't play live anymore but hey, its a hobby. At the start of Covid I started painting little space dudes for the craic but now I'm in severe debt from buying so much from the Warhammer shop that I've asked my girlfriend to punch me everytime I try go anywhere near it. My Favourite Movies are Jurassic Park, The Big Lebowski, The Lord of the Rings (all 3) and Army of Darkness. First Playable

To quote Jeff Goldblum in my absolute favourite film of all time, "You did it, You crazy Son of a B**** You did it".  Thats right, I have made a halfway decent stealth game. I've built up the game from my prototype, introducing a GameWin state and a GameLose state to the game, meaning the player now has a goal and things stopping him from reaching that goal.  This is the winning Message. This is the Game Over Screen. I replaced the cube with a Solid Snake character asset to show who the player is, this is only a placeholder for the moment. I found the asset on  this website if your interested, they provide some really cool free assets for games. There are now multiple Guards following diverse paths making sneaking past them a bit tricky. Buildings can be used to take cover behind.
